MCA Youth urges Information Ministry to continue airing “What Say You” or similar talk show over RTM ...

MCA Youth National Chairman Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong chaired its first 2008-2011 Central Committee meeting today at Wisma MCA. During the press conference to the media after the meeting, Ka Siong announced that after a thorough discussion, the meeting has unanimously decided to set up additional bureaus in the wing to strengthen and improve the efficiency of the mechanism and operation in the wing. The new bureaus are Political Education Bureau, Legal Affairs & Parliamentary Legislature Research Bureau, Anti Drugs & Environmental Affairs Bureau, Vocational Training Bureau and NGO Liaison Bureau.

Next, Ka Siong expressed that the meeting has also decided to set up a Monitoring and Public Delivery Working Committee to be headed by the wing’s Deputy Chairman Dr Mah Hang Soon. The committee will be entrusted with the responsibilities to monitor and study the formulation of government policies or any bills to recognize any weaknesses before it is going to be presented in the Parliament for approval.

On another matter, Ka Siong announced that a working committee to be headed by the wing’s Vice-Chairman Sdr. Wilfred Yong Chen Leong and Sdr. Wyman Yoo Wei How together with seven other Youth Under 35-years old committee members to conduct discussions with Wanita MCA on coming out with concrete measures to attract more youths regardless of gender to join any wings that they prefer.

Lately, Ka Siong told the media that the wing had received many complaints over the problems faced by local suppliers in supplying their goods to the hypermarket operators. He added that local suppliers had been forced by some hypermarket operators to contribute a substantial sum of money of RM5,000 towards the printing fee of their publicity materials such as brochures and flyers. He added that the local suppliers had no choice but to obey the instructions given by such operators in exchange of receiving the balance of the payment for providing goods to them.

Ka Siong reiterated that MCA Youth will not tolerate such actions and therefore urged the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry look into this matter on any abuse of power by the hypermarket operators on local suppliers. Such action will only hurt the businesses of local suppliers and small traders in the country.

Referring to the talk show “What Say You” being taken off from RTM2 last Sunday, Ka Siong told the media that he had discussed the issue with Information Minister Dato' Ahmad Shabery Cheek and he was being informed that RTM is currently undergoing restructuring and rebranding process and the show will be given a new facelift. During the discussion, he urged the Information Minister to continue airing the talk show or similar programs in view of the strong viewership and support from the Chinese community. Through the talk show, Ka Siong added that it provides a good platform for different people from various walks of life including politicians with different ideologies to gather together to discuss and debate on various issues affecting the interest of the people. The public could also through this program shares and exchanges their views on various topics as presented in the show weekly.

公正党与行动党向回教党妥协，雪发展局经理只委土著…

(吉隆坡-2日讯)马青总团长魏家祥今天对雪州州务大臣卡立只会委任土著出任雪州发展局总经理的决定感到遗憾，更表示这意味着公正党与行动党无法制衡回教党的宗教种族极端主义。

“卡立日前说，委任刘秀梅为发展局代总经理(Acting General Manager)是经过周全考虑后才作的决定，但经过雪州回教党主席哈山阿里的抗议之后，就对这个决定有了180度的转变。他不止宣布刘秀梅只是担任暂代总经理(Covering General Manager)，而且还强调出任雪州发展局总经理的人选，一定是土著。”

也是副教育部长的魏家祥质问，民联声称将不分种族对待全民，为何在人事委任方面，却一味强调委任土著？

他进一步指出，在民联成立初期，针对回教党欲成立回教国的立场，行动党与公正党皆表示可以制衡回教党，确保大马的世俗体制不会改变。但是，最近的几个事件，如吉打州50%房屋固打保留给土著以及雪州委任发展局总经理事件，我们都看到了行动党与公正党对回教党采取妥协的态度，不敢以行动表示反对。

“为了保住政权，行动党与公正党可以放弃原则，对回教党的极端政策妥协。若有一天民联执政中央，难道行动党与公正党又要向回教党妥协，成立神权回教国？”

魏家祥呼吁有良知的民联议员不要向回教党屈服，应当勇敢地站出来对民联最近的不当政策说不。他也要求安华与林冠英以党魁的身份出面干涉此事，以免行动党的CAT政策以及公正党的“全民公正”沦为政治笑话。

MCA 55th Annual Meeting of the General Assembly Resolutions

1)	Party Affairs
1.1	The General Assembly extends gratitude to outgoing President YB Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting, Deputy President Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy and Central Committee members for their contributions to the party.
1.2	The General Assembly fully supports MCA’s reform efforts through the party’s four (4) Core Values i.e. Democratic Principles, Rights of the People in Accordance with the Federal Constitution, People Centric and National Aspiration and we will move towards the spirit of “Governing with the People, Sharing Among the Races” while urging party members to remain united and to continue upholding the party’s team spirit in serving the people.
2)	Politics
2.1	The General Assembly urges the government to emphasize on human rights in accordance with the Federal Constitution and also urges all parties to cease playing up politics and should return to the correct track of politics to maintain stability in the country in creating a just, democratic and a liberal Malaysia
3)	Governmental Affairs
3.1	The General Assembly urges the government to revamp the Anti Corruption Act 1997 to change the Anti Corruption Agency (ACA) to Malaysian Commission on Anti Corruption (MCAC) while at the same time, set up a Parliamentary Committee on Prevention of Corruption to ensure that the ACA is independent and empowered to charge suspects in showing that the government is serious in its effort to curb corruption problems.
3.2	The General Assembly urges the government to review the ISA and establish a check and balance system to monitor the use of ISA to ensure that ISA should be applied strictly to cases relating to terrorism and subversive elements.
3.3	The General Assembly urges the government to expedite the judicial reform and set up an independent Judicial Commission which must consist of people from the legal field who hold good track records and high moral standing to restore the confidence of the people in our judiciary system.
3.4	The General Assembly urges the government to be more committed in their actions in implementing penalties against officers being found guilty of committing corrupt practices, power abuse while at the same time, rewarding officers who have shown excellence in work performance to increase work efficiency.
4)	Economics
4.1	The General Assembly views the latest financial debacle in the global economy with great seriousness as the effects are expected to pose severe challenges on the Malaysian economy and the business sector. The General Assembly, therefore, urges the government to urgently review and revamp all the major macroeconomic policies such as the Industrial Coordination Act, Foreign Investment Committee Guidelines with the intention of liberalizing all sectors of the economy in order to encourage rapid economic expansion and to raise Malaysia’s global competitiveness in all areas including, raising the income levels of all Malaysians.
4.2	The General Assembly urges the government to revive its low interest, micro credit facilities to encourage economic independence among the lower income groups and micro/small businesses.
4.3	The General Assembly urges, in line with good governance, that the government revamps existing mechanisms used in Approved Permits, subsidies and price controls to prevent abuse and to ensure that resources are properly channeled to the lower income groups.
4.4	The General Assembly calls on the government to diversify its fiscal revenue base so that both personal income and corporate taxes may be gradually reduced, in order to raise the disposable income of Malaysians and, and to enhance Malaysia’s investment/business competitiveness.
4.5	The General Assembly calls on the government to implement a comprehensive minimum wage structure in selected critical sectors like agriculture, commodities and the service industry, so that income levels of Malaysians can be raised. A minimum wage structure is essential to protect lower income groups from exploitation. A Wage Council should be set up to monitor and implement the minimum wage policy.
5)	Education
5.1	The General Assembly urges the government to build schools of different streams according to the needs of the local community including Chinese Primary Schools, and also to eliminate differential treatment between fully aided schools and partially aided schools.
5.2	The General Assembly urges the Ministry of Education to restore the usage of mother-tongue language when teaching Mathematics and Science in primary schools, and to use other methods to increase proficiency levels of students in the English language.
5.3	The General Assembly urges the government appoint more non-bumiputra candidates of caliber and experience to be Vice Chancellors in public universities. This will enhance a multiracial spirit while improving the university’s performance.
6)	Religious Freedom
6.1	The General Assembly upholds the Federal Constitution that enshrines the right to freedom of religion, thus the General Assembly firmly reiterates that Syariah laws cannot be applied to non-Muslims. When one spouse embraces Islam, the rights of the non converting spouse must be protected under the Federal Constitution where divorce, distribution of matrimonial assets, custody, religion of minor children must be decided constitutionally under the marriage laws as the basis. In cases of dispute, they must be resolved under the civil courts.
6.2	The General Assembly urges all the state governments to seriously implement the guidelines in building places of worship of non-Muslims (Garis Panduan Pembinaan Tempat Ibadat Bukan Islam) as approved by the National Council for Local Governments(Majlis Negara Kerajaan Tempatan) to ensure that all religions may develop freely without any interference from any quarters.
7)	Social
7.1	The General Assembly urges the government to quickly set up the IPCMC and take the appropriate action to increase the police force to strengthen the relationship between the police and the people to combat crime to prevent deteriorating conditions of our national security.
7.2	The General Assembly urges the government to clearly identify long-term policies on foreign workers while not affecting the work opportunities of the people and also fulfils the needs of the country’s development condition and also come out with an efficient measure in managing foreign workers’ stay in the country in reducing social ills.
7.3	The General Assembly urges the federal government to look into the needs of the people of Sabah and Sarawak. Infrastructure, amenities and utilities must be provided for sufficiently to raise the economic well being of these two states.
7.4	The General Assembly views with much disturbance the national citizenship obtained by foreigners in Sabah and Sarawak through fraudulent means and also urges the Federal Government to expedite the approvals of Permanent Resident status and citizenship to all applicants who have fulfilled the conditions for such approvals thereto and for such purposes, to institutionalize the procedures thereof soonest possible.
7.5	The General Assembly urges the government to formulate more welfare policies to assist people with disabilities, single parents, indigenous people and people living in poverty, by providing training and work opportunities to enable them to be independent and to improve their living conditions.
